Resveratrol is one of the substances that could possibly solve the so called “French paradox”, namely that the French usually eat a diet quite high in saturated fat, yet suffer a low rate of atherosclerotic heart disease, their long life span and young red wines. Resveratrol appears to work as a powerful antioxidant helping quench free radical damage in the body, but also has a unique mechanism of action that may prove to have significant life extension properties.

What is Resveratrol?

Resveratrol is polyphenol phytoalexin. I know it sounds scary and unintelligible, but actually it’s a natural substance produced by several plants (certain vines, pine trees, peanuts, grapes, and other plants).

What we should know about Resveratrol?

Resveratrol is one of the new hits on the health supplements market for the last few years. They say it could cure diabetes II, extends life and even stops cancer. Of course, while there are no serious issue confirmations for studies on humans it will be difficult to talk about real proven effect. Therefore I will divide proven by the alleged.

Heart/Blood Vessels and Resveratrol

When researchers deconstruct heart disease, they see many different things happening at the level of the cell. Cholesterol and other fat-related substances are one small part of a bigger picture that involves many other factors. Fortunately, many facets of heart disease can be controlled through dietary means. Resveratrol is a dietary agent that has powerful and diverse effects on the heart and blood vessels.

What is used and what health benefits it carries?

Proven benefits from taking resveratrol:

The most important quality with a proven procedure that has Resveratrol is its antioxidant effect. Thanks to it, it stops the action of various free radicals that can damage cells. Research shows that resveratrol cooperate with vitamin E and fellow substances.

Assumptions and unsubstantiated claims:

• Prevention of some types of cancer - studies are conflicting, there is no definite results, conducted on people;
• Improvement in the treatment of diabetes 2 - currently there are active experiments on laboratory animals and humans. We expect this claim to be confirmed shortly;
• Athletic achievements - as well as other benefits of resveratrol there is no data for testing on humans too. Treatments on animals, however, are impressive. It is believed that Resveratrol unlocks sports SIRT 1 gene, resulting in significantly improved performance of the test subjects with regard to metabolism speed, hormone levels, etc.;
• Extending life span (delaying aging) - although similar effects were observed on test animals, such finding on humans years of research are required for our metabolism.
It is believed that the way resveratrol acts is unlocking and encouraging the work of certain genes in human DNA and thus lead to improvement of overall metabolism. Without doubt, many studies seem promising but will need at least another five years to clarify the effects on people.
Should be noted also suspected link between resveratrol and effects of red wine. The reason is that last contains many similar and even more poorly studied substances. It is still early to say: "This substance is the key to the effect of red wine!"

Are there established contraindications and side effects of taking resveratrol?
Resveratrol is very young product. There are still no side effects detected.

In combination with what should not take resveratrol?
There is no known drug interactions due to lack of sufficient research.

Resveratrol dosage and how to take it?

There is no established recommended daily intakes by FDA nor the U.S. nor the authorities in the EU. There is research on people receiving up to 5 grams / day without side effects and adverse health effects over a period of several days. Most manufacturers of the additive used for the optimal 500 mg daily dose.

Resveratrol oxidizes very quickly and leaves the body quickly. Depending on the oxidation/absorption factor one 50 mg. capsule twice daily which would compare to either two liters of red wine (8 glasses) or 8 liters (36 glasses) of red wine and it is best taken with Phosphatidylcholine which is reported to increase absorption.

Which sports and health supplements can meet him?

Resveratrol sold in combination with grape extracts or as part of antioxidant formula. You can meet and multivitaminna complex formula. If you buy a supplement containing resveratrol, try to understand that if there is trans-E isomer or active low cis-Z.

Summary

The research on resveratrol is so voluminous that it's not possible to cover it in one article. In addition to the benefits mentioned previously, resveratrol has been tested for its ability to be pain killer, protect against skin cancer, stop the growth of Helicobacter pylori- the bacteria that causes stomach ulcers leading to cancer, protect DNA, protect immune cells, and many other conditions. As pointed out earlier, recently resveratrol became the first-ever supplement known to activate a longevity gene.

Resveratrol represents a novel solution to many common problems encountered by aging humans.
